STEAM Workshop: "Disaster and Human"


Are you willing to lend a helping hand to those suffering from disasters? 

The Humanitarian Education Centre uses examples of disasters from around the world, integrating interactive storytelling with STEAM education. 
This approach encourages students to engage with current disaster related events, reflect on the value of life and understand the feelings and needs of affected communities. It helps students build positive values and attitudes, transform empathy into actions, developing their problem-solving skills and broadening their global perspective.

  • Theatrical Performance: Raise concern for global disaster situations through humanitarian rescue storytelling 

  • Humanitarian X STEAM Education: Participants will create models related to the stories, enhancing students' knowledge of humanitarian rescue work

Storyline STEAM DIY Options

Abu and Water

A small village located in Syria is long plagued by war and drought. How does the eight-year-old Abu confront various challenges in such extreme circumstances? 

The activity will allow participants to enjoy storytelling theatre, engage in interactive discussions and create STEAM crafts so as to understand land-based humanitarian rescue stories, care about global disasters and cultivate empathy.

Winter Storm Outside the Window 

A city, battered by a snowstorm, is facing power outages. Tom, huddled at home, discovers that a child still attend school under strong storm each day. Tom learns the reason by chance and decides to do whatever he can to help that child. 

The activity will allow participants to enjoy storytelling theatre, engage in interactive discussions, and creating STEAM crafts so as to understand the impact of climate change on daily life, build up positive values and cultivate empathy.

  • If a group exceeds 30 people, they can apply for additional participants. The centre will review the application separately. 
  • The charge for additional participants is HK$200 per person, and payment must be completed before the start of the event; no refunds will be provided.

  1. Applications must be submitted at least 6 weeks in advance, and participation is only confirmed upon payment

  2. The activity schedule can be adjusted according to the school's class schedule.  

  3. Please read the following information related to registration carefully:

  4. If the activity is not conducted at our centre, schools are required to provide activity venue and basic equipment such as chairs, computers, projectors and audio equipment. 

  5. If the number of participants is fewer than 30, no refunds will be issued.

  6. Recognized schools include registered schools in the Education Bureau's school register. 

  7. Recognized charities/groups are eligible to enjoy the same discounts as schools. A Recognized charities/groups refers to a charitable organization that is exempt from taxation under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance.
